Since childhood, I have enjoyed observing the adventurous and entertaining sea otters of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. I was influenced early on by Harold McCracken's book, "The Last of the Sea Otters" first published in 1942 and now out of print. It left a lasting impression on me. "Medviedki" (Russian for "Little Bear"), the book's title character, was one of the last remaining sea otters of a once thriving population decimated by the excesses of the fur trade in Alaska. I have tried to show "Medviedki" as I have always imagined him, relaxing in his favorite place - a bed of kelp. Bronze Sculpture on Marble Base 18" h x 13" w x 9" d Limited Edition of 35 |
